ConnectCard Overview

Port Authority is installing a new state-of-the-art smart card fare collection system that offers a more convenient and secure way for riders to pay their fares.

The ConnectCard system will use a plastic smart card with a computer chip inside. The card stores a variety of fare options that will make it quicker and easier to ride.

The ConnectCard system will also help Port Authority operate more efficiently. The system will help us:

• The ConnectCard system's sophisticated technology reduces fare evasion, which currently costs Port Authority thousands of dollars in revenue each year.

• Reducing the amount of cash we handle and replacing older, malfunctioning equipment will help us better control costs.
